Structure and Formatting

1. King Darius appoints high officials and wants Daniel to be the highest (1–3) 2. The other officials get Darius to make a law forbidding prayer (4–9) 3. Daniel continues to pray to God, and the officials insist that Darius punish him (10–16) 4. Daniel is thrown into a den of lions, but God protects him (16–23) 5. The other officials are thrown into the den and killed, and Darius honors God (24–28)Some translations set each line of poetry farther to the right than the rest of the text to make it easier to read.
