If you use the following alternate translation, you will need to make sure that your translation of the phrase “on the other hand” in 7:19b fits with what you choose here. Here, the phrase the former commandment identifies what God commanded Moses to tell the people about how the descendants of Levi would serve as priests and what they would do. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make this idea more explicit. Alternate translation: “of the former commandment about the Levitical priesthood” or “of the former commandment concerning priests in Moses’ law”
