10:38 Jesus’ miraculous works should help true believers know and understand that the full reality of God dwells in Jesus.
Note 1 topic: grammar-connect-condition-fact
εἰ δὲ ποιῶ
if but ˱I˲_˓am˒_doing
Jesus is speaking as if this were a hypothetical possibility, but he means that it is actually true. If your language does not state something as a condition if it is certain or true, and if your readers might think that what Jesus is saying is not certain, then you could translate his words as an affirmative statement. Alternate translation: [But since I am doing them]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
τοῖς ἔργοις πιστεύετε
˱in˲_the works ˓be˒_believing
Here, believe in means to acknowledge that the works Jesus does are done with the authority of the Father and prove that he is God. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [believe that the works I do are from God] or [believe that the works I do are done with God’s power]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
ἐν ἐμοὶ ὁ Πατὴρ, κἀγὼ ἐν τῷ Πατρί
in me_‹is› the Father and_I_‹am› in the Father
Jesus uses the word in to express the close personal relationship between himself and God. If this might confuse your readers, you could express the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [my Father has a close relationship with me, and I have a close relationship with my Father]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / doublet
ἐν ἐμοὶ ὁ Πατὴρ, κἀγὼ ἐν τῷ Πατρί
in me_‹is› the Father and_I_‹am› in the Father
These two phrases mean basically the same thing. The repetition is used to emphasize that the truth of what Jesus is saying. If your language does not use repetition in this way, you could combine these phrases. Alternate translation: [my Father and I are completely joined together as one]
