Note: This view shows ‘verses’ which are not natural language units and hence sometimes only part of a sentence will be visible. Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed for doing comparisons of different translations. Click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. The OET segments on this page are still very early looks into the unfinished texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

10:1-42 Chapter 10 continues the series of festival sermons (see study note on 5:1–10:42). Here, the setting is Hanukkah (the Festival of Dedication), the timing of which is crucial to understanding the story (see study note on 10:22).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / possession

τὰ ἔργα τοῦ Πατρός μου

the works ˱of˲_the Father ˱of˲_me

Here Jesus is using of to describe works that God wants him to do. If this is not clear in your language, you could use a different expression. See how you translated a similar phrase in 9:4. Alternate translation: “the works that my Father demands”

Note 2 topic: guidelines-sonofgodprinciples

Πατρός

Father

Father is an important title for God.
