Note 1 topic: writing-endofstory
וַיִּשְׁכַּ֥ב דָּוִ֖ד עִם־אֲבֹתָ֑יו וַיִּקָּבֵ֖ר בְּעִ֥יר דָּוִֽד
(Some words not found in UHB: and,he_lay_down Dāvid with ancestors_of,his and,he_was_buried in,the_city_of Dāvid )
In this verse and the next verse, the author is using phrases that he will also use throughout the book to conclude his accounts of the reigns of other kings. The occurrence of these recurring phrases signals the end of a story. Use a natural form in your language for expressing the conclusion of a story, and try to translate all the occurrences of these phrases consistently so that their purpose will be evident. Alternate translation: [text]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / euphemism
וַיִּשְׁכַּ֥ב דָּוִ֖ד עִם־אֲבֹתָ֑יו
(Some words not found in UHB: and,he_lay_down Dāvid with ancestors_of,his and,he_was_buried in,the_city_of Dāvid )
See how you translated the similar expression in [1:21](../01/21.md). Alternate translation: [And David passed away]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
אֲבֹתָ֑יו
ancestors_of,his
See how you translated the similar expression in [1:21](../01/21.md). Alternate translation: [his ancestors]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
וַיִּקָּבֵ֖ר
(Some words not found in UHB: and,he_lay_down Dāvid with ancestors_of,his and,he_was_buried in,the_city_of Dāvid )
The expression he was buried is a passive verbal form. If your language would not use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [and people buried him]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
