OET (OET-LV) And_they_said to_the_king_of ʼAshshūr to_say the_nations which you_took_into_exile and_you_caused_to_dwell in_the_cities_of Shomrōn not they_know DOM the_custom_of the_god_of the_earth/land and_he_has_sent among_them DOM (the)_lions and_THERE_they are_killing them just_as not_they are_knowing DOM the_custom_of the_god_of the_earth/land.
OET (OET-RV) They told the Assyrian king, “The people groups that you exiled from their own countries and settled in the towns around Shomron, don’t know the customs of the god of the land. So he’s sent lions against them, and look at them—killing them because they don’t know the customs of the god of the land.”
Note 1 topic: writing-pronouns
וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ לְמֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁוּר֮
(Some words not found in UHB: and=they_said to,the_king_of ʼAshshūr to=say the=nations which/who deported and,you_caused_to_dwell in,the_cities_of Shomrōn not know DOM law_of god_of the=earth/land and,he_has_sent among,them DOM (the),lions and,there,they killing ,them just=as not,they know DOM law_of god_of the=earth/land )
Here the author is using the pronoun they in a general sense, not to refer to specific people. Use an expression for this that would be natural in your language. Alternate translation: [And the king of Assyria was told]
Note 2 topic: translate-names
שֹׁמְר֔וֹן
(Some words not found in UHB: and=they_said to,the_king_of ʼAshshūr to=say the=nations which/who deported and,you_caused_to_dwell in,the_cities_of Shomrōn not know DOM law_of god_of the=earth/land and,he_has_sent among,them DOM (the),lions and,there,they killing ,them just=as not,they know DOM law_of god_of the=earth/land )
Even if you used the name “Israel” in your translation in [17:24](../17/24.md) to reflect the author’s meaning, it would be appropriate to use the name Samaria here, since that is apparently how the people in the Assyrian royal court referred to the land that had been the northern kingdom of Israel.
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
וְהִנָּם֙ מְמִיתִ֣ים אוֹתָ֔ם
(Some words not found in UHB: and=they_said to,the_king_of ʼAshshūr to=say the=nations which/who deported and,you_caused_to_dwell in,the_cities_of Shomrōn not know DOM law_of god_of the=earth/land and,he_has_sent among,them DOM (the),lions and,there,they killing ,them just=as not,they know DOM law_of god_of the=earth/land )
The people who are informing the Assyrian king are using behold them as a common expression of their culture to describe an activity that is ongoing at the time when they are speaking. If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. If you have already translated the book of 1 Kings, see how you translated the similar expression in [1 Kings 1:25](../1ki/01/25.md). Alternate translation: [and they are killing them as we speak] or [and they are killing them right now]

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
