OET (OET-LV) And_they_were fearing DOM YHWH and_they_made to/for_them from_among_of_themselves priests_of the_high_places and_they_were offering to/for_them in_house_of the_high_places.
OET (OET-RV) At the same time, they tried placating Yahweh, but they also made their own priests to make sacrifices for them in their hilltop shrines.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / merism
מִקְצוֹתָם֙
from,among_of,themselves
The author is using the term extremities to mean the outer limits of the population of these groups, and he is using those outer limits to represent them and everything in between. In other words, he means that these people groups made priests from throughout their entire population, not from a specific priestly tribe such as the Levites. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. If you have already translated the book of 1 Kings, see how you translated the similar expression in [1 Kings 12:31](../1ki/12/31.md). Alternate translation: [from throughout their populations]
Note 2 topic: writing-pronouns
וַיִּהְי֛וּ עֹשִׂ֥ים לָהֶ֖ם
(Some words not found in UHB: and=they_were feared DOM YHWH and=they_made to/for=them from,among_of,themselves priests_of high_places and=they_were sacrificing to/for=them in=house_of of,the_high_places )
The pronoun they refers to these priests, while the pronoun them refers to the gods whom these people groups made idols to represent. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: [and those priests were making sacrifices to the gods that their nations had made]
OET (OET-LV) And_they_were fearing DOM YHWH and_they_made to/for_them from_among_of_themselves priests_of the_high_places and_they_were offering to/for_them in_house_of the_high_places.
OET (OET-RV) At the same time, they tried placating Yahweh, but they also made their own priests to make sacrifices for them in their hilltop shrines.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
