OET (OET-LV) And_they_came and_they_called_out to the_gatekeeper_of the_city and_they_told to/for_them to_say we_went into the_camp_of ʼArām and_BEHOLD/LO/SEE there_was_not there anyone and_the_sound_of anyone if/because (if) the_horse[s] are_tethered and_the_donkey[s] are_tethered and_the_tents just_as they_were.
OET (OET-RV) So they went and called out to one of the city gatekeepers, and they informed them, “We went to the Aramean camp, but listen, there wasn’t anyone there, or any voices. The horses and donkeys were still tethered, and the tents were left just as they were.”
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / genericnoun
שֹׁעֵ֣ר הָעִיר֒
(Some words not found in UHB: and=they_came and,they_called_out to/towards gatekeepers_of the=city and,they_told to/for=them to=say went to/towards camp_of ʼArammiy and=see/lo/see! not there (a)_man and_[the],sound_of humankind that/for/because/then/when if the,horse[s] tied and,the,donkey[s] tied and_[the],tents just=as they(emph) )
The author is not referring to a specific gatekeeper. As the pronoun them later in this verse and the plural form in the next verse indicate, there were several gatekeepers on duty. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could use an expression that would be more natural in your language. Alternate translation: [the gatekeepers of the city]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / genericnoun
כִּ֣י אִם־הַסּ֤וּס אָסוּר֙ וְהַחֲמ֣וֹר אָס֔וּר
(Some words not found in UHB: and=they_came and,they_called_out to/towards gatekeepers_of the=city and,they_told to/for=them to=say went to/towards camp_of ʼArammiy and=see/lo/see! not there (a)_man and_[the],sound_of humankind that/for/because/then/when if the,horse[s] tied and,the,donkey[s] tied and_[the],tents just=as they(emph) )
The lepers are not referring to a specific horse or donkey. They mean the Arameans’ horses and donkeys in general. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could use an expression that would be more natural in your language. Alternate translation: [but the horses were tied, and the donkeys were tied]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
כִּ֣י אִם־הַסּ֤וּס אָסוּר֙ וְהַחֲמ֣וֹר אָס֔וּר
(Some words not found in UHB: and=they_came and,they_called_out to/towards gatekeepers_of the=city and,they_told to/for=them to=say went to/towards camp_of ʼArammiy and=see/lo/see! not there (a)_man and_[the],sound_of humankind that/for/because/then/when if the,horse[s] tied and,the,donkey[s] tied and_[the],tents just=as they(emph) )
In both instances, the expression was tied is a passive verbal form. If your language would not use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that would be natural in your language. Alternate translation: [but their horses and donkeys were still at their tethers]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
