OET (OET-RV) In the fifth year of the reign of Ahab’s son Yoram as king of Yisrael, Yehoshafat’s son Yehoram became king of Yehudah.
Note 1 topic: writing-participants
וּבִשְׁנַ֣ת חָמֵ֗שׁ לְיוֹרָ֤ם בֶּן־אַחְאָב֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וִיהוֹשָׁפָ֖ט מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה מָלַ֛ךְ יְהוֹרָ֥ם בֶּן־יְהוֹשָׁפָ֖ט מֶ֥לֶךְ יְהוּדָֽה
(Some words not found in UHB: and=in=year_of five of,Joram son_of ʼAḩʼāⱱ king Yisrael and,Jehoshaphat king Yehuda reign Yəhōrām/(Jehoram) son_of Yəhōshāfāţ/(Jehoshaphat) king Yehuda )
In this verse and the next two verses, the author is introducing Jehoram as a participant in the story as the new king of Judah. To translate this verse, see how you translated the similar expressions in [1:17](../01/17.md).
Note 2 topic: translate-names
לְיוֹרָ֤ם & יְהוֹרָ֥ם
of,Joram & Yəhōrām/(Jehoram)
See the discussion of these names in the introduction to this chapter. The author sometimes calls the son of Ahab who succeeded him as king of Israel by the name Joram, as he does here, but sometimes he calls him Jehoram. Similarly, the author sometimes calls the son of Jehoshaphat who succeeded him as king of Judah by the name Jehoram, as he does here, but sometimes he calls him Joram.
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis
וִיהוֹשָׁפָ֖ט מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה
(Some words not found in UHB: and=in=year_of five of,Joram son_of ʼAḩʼāⱱ king Yisrael and,Jehoshaphat king Yehuda reign Yəhōrām/(Jehoram) son_of Yəhōshāfāţ/(Jehoshaphat) king Yehuda )
The author is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. (He is referring to the co-regency that Jehoram had had with his father Jehoshaphat for the previous seven years. See the discussion of this in the introduction to this chapter.) You can supply these words from the context if that would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: [after Jehoshaphat had been the king of Judah together with his son for seven years]

OET (OET-RV) In the fifth year of the reign of Ahab’s son Yoram as king of Yisrael, Yehoshafat’s son Yehoram became king of Yehudah.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
