OET (OET-LV)And_brothers_of_their mighty_[men]_of strength one_hundred twenty and_eight and_overseer over_their Zaⱱdiyʼēl the_son_of the_haggedolim.

OET (OET-RV)and his brothers who were strong warriors, came to a total of 128.
§ Haggedolim’s son Zavdi’el was their overseer.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

וַאֲחֵיהֶם֙ גִּבּ֣וֹרֵי חַ֔יִל מֵאָ֖ה עֶשְׂרִ֣ים וּשְׁמֹנָ֑ה

and,brothers_of,their warriors_of valiant hundred twenty and,eight

The implication is that this is the total number of priests that Amashsai was responsible for. If it would be helpful in your language, you could say this explicitly. Alternate translation: “Amashsai was responsible for 128 priests who were capable of working in the temple”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

וַאֲחֵיהֶם֙

and,brothers_of,their

Here, in context, brothers is a figurative way of saying “fellow priests” as in 11:12, althoughit is possible that some of the biological brothers of Amashsai were included in this group. Their is plural because it is describing this group in reference to all of the other priests, not just to Amashsai. Alternate translation: “their fellow priests”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

גִּבּ֣וֹרֵי חַ֔יִל

warriors_of valiant

In this context, the abstract noun strength likely refers to the way these men were physically capable of doing the required work in the temple. If it would be helpful in your language, you could translate the idea behind it with an adjective such as “capable.” Alternate translation: “men who were capable of working in the temple”

Note 4 topic: translate-numbers

מֵאָ֖ה עֶשְׂרִ֣ים וּשְׁמֹנָ֑ה

hundred twenty and,eight

Alternate translation: “one hundred and twenty-eight”

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

וּפָקִ֣יד עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם

and,overseer over,their

This appears to mean that while Amashsai was responsible overall for this group of priests, Zabdiel supervised their day-to-day work. Alternate translation: “Zabdiel was their supervisor”

Note 6 topic: translate-names

זַבְדִּיאֵ֖ל בֶּן־הַגְּדוֹלִֽים

Zaⱱdiy\sup_ʼēl son_of the,haggedolim

Zabdiel is the name of a man, and Haggedolim is the name of his father.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

11:1-36 The narrative returns to the issue of repopulating the secure city of Jerusalem (see 7:1-5). The list of names roughly parallels the list in 1 Chr 9:2-17.
