OET (OET-LV) And_they_rose_early in_morning and_they_went_up to the_top_of the_hill_country to_say here_we_are and_we_will_go_up to the_place which he_said YHWH if/because we_have_sinned.
OET (OET-RV) Early the next morning, they went up towards the hilltops, saying, “Look at us all here! Yes, we sinned yesterday, but today we’ll go up to the place that Yahweh said.”
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
וַיַּֽעֲל֥וּ
and,they_went_up
The implication is that the Israelites are preparing to leave. In [verse 44](../14/44.md), the text shows that they actually started marching up to fight. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [and prepared to go up] or [and got ready to go up]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicitinfo
וַיַּֽעֲל֥וּ
and,they_went_up
In keeping with what is usual for his language and culture, the author is marking travel for change in elevation. If this expression contains extra information that would not be natural to express in your language, you could shorten it. Alternate translation: [and went]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / personification
אֶל־רֹאשׁ־הָהָ֖ר
to/towards head of,the_hill_country
Here, the author is speaking as if a hill were a person with a head. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [to the heights of the hill country] or [to the top of the hill country]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / exclusive
הִנֶּ֗נּוּ וְעָלִ֛ינוּ & חָטָֽאנוּ
here,we_[are] and,we_will_go_up & sinned
By us, the people mean to include themselves but not Moses to whom they are speaking, so use the exclusive form of that word if your language marks that distinction.
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
הִנֶּ֗נּוּ
here,we_[are]
The Israelites are using the term Behold us to focus their listeners’ attention on what they are about to say. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation. Alternate translation: [Listen to us]
Note 6 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result
וְעָלִ֛ינוּ אֶל־הַמָּק֛וֹם אֲשֶׁר־אָמַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה כִּ֥י חָטָֽאנוּ
and,we_will_go_up to/towards the,place which/who he/it_had_said YHWH that/for/because/then/when sinned
If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these phrases, since the second phrase gives the reason for the result that the first phrase describes. Alternate translation: [We sinned. So, now we will go up to the place that Yahweh said]
Note 7 topic: figures-of-speech / explicitinfo
וְעָלִ֛ינוּ
and,we_will_go_up
In keeping with what is usual for his language and culture, the author is marking travel for change in elevation. If this expression contains extra information that would not be natural to express in your language, you could shorten it. Alternate translation: [And we will go]

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
