Here the masculine terms man, he, and his have a generic sense that includes both men and women. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could use language in your translation that is clearly inclusive of both men and women. Alternate translation: [And the person who is clean and is not on a way and ceases to do the Passover, then that person shall be cut off from his or her people, for he or she did not present the offering of Yahweh in its appointed time. That person shall lift up his or her sin]

Yahweh is using is not on a way as a common expression of this culture to mean “is not traveling” or “is not on a journey.” If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Here, Yahweh is speaking of separating a person from his community as if that person were cut off from his people like a branch being cut from a tree. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. See the chapter introduction for more information. Alternate translation: [then that person shall be expelled from his people]

The expression shall be cut off from his people is a passive verbal form. If your language would not use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. If you need to say who does the action, the context indicates that it is the rest of the Israelites. Alternate translation: [then the rest of the Israelites must cut off that person from among them]

Yahweh is using a construction in which a verb (present) and its object (offering) come from the same root. You may be able to use the same construction in your language to express the meaning here. Alternatively, your language may have another way of saying this. Alternate translation: [he did not give the offering]

Yahweh is using the possessive form to describe an offering that is for Yahweh. If a speaker of your language would not use the possessive form for this, you could express this idea in another way. Yahweh assumes that readers will know that the offering refers to the Passover lamb that the Israelites were commanded to sacrifice. Here, Yahweh is speaking of sin as if it were a burden that a person could lift up or carry. This speaks of experiencing the consequences of sin. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [That man shall bear his sin] or [That man will be punished for his sin]
