OET (OET-RV) When the sacred tent was dedicated, the cloud covered the inner room of the tent, and every evening it would look like fire above the residence, until morning came.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / events
וּבְיוֹם֙ הָקִ֣ים אֶת־הַמִּשְׁכָּ֔ן
and,on,the_day_of set_up DOM the,tabernacle
This day is the day that [Exodus 40:17](../../exo/40/17.md) refers to, which is the first day of the first month of the second year. So, this event occurred before the Passover described in the first half of this chapter, which took place on the fourteenth day of the first month. If it is helpful in your language, you might want to make it clear that the account that starts in this verse happened before the Passover in [9:1–14](../09/01.md). Alternate translation: [Now previously, on the day of the raising up of the Dwelling]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
הֶֽעָנָן֙
the,cloud
The author assumes that readers will know that the cloud is the same cloud that led the Israelites when they left Egypt as described in [Exodus 13:21–22](../exo/13/21.md). You could say this explicitly if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [the same cloud that went before them when they left Egypt]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / possession
אֶת־הַמִּשְׁכָּ֔ן לְאֹ֖הֶל הָעֵדֻ֑ת
DOM the,tabernacle DOM the,tabernacle of,the_tent_of of,the_testimony
The author is using the possessive form to describe a Dwelling that was inside the Tent of the Testimony. The Dwelling was the inner part of the sacred tent, and the Tent of the Testimony was the outer part that enclosed it. See [Exodus 26:1–13](../exo/26/01.md) for details, and see how you translated the similar words in [3:25](../03/25.md). If a speaker of your language would not use the possessive form for this, you could express this idea in another way. Alternate translation: [the Dwelling that was inside the Tent of the Testimony]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / simile
יִהְיֶ֧ה עַֽל־הַמִּשְׁכָּ֛ן כְּמַרְאֵה־אֵ֖שׁ
will_belong on/upon the,tabernacle like_[the],appearance_of fire
The point of this comparison is that just as fire is bright and visible at night, so was the appearance over the Dwelling. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make this point explicitly. Alternate translation: [it is bright upon the Dwelling, like the appearance of fire]
Note 5 topic: translate-tense
יִהְיֶ֧ה
will_belong
Here and in [9:16–23](../09/16.md), the author uses the present tense to describe things that happened regularly and repeatedly in the past. See the chapter introduction for more information. If it would be clearer in your language, you could use a tense that can refer to regular or repeated actions. Alternate translation: [it was]

OET (OET-RV) When the sacred tent was dedicated, the cloud covered the inner room of the tent, and every evening it would look like fire above the residence, until morning came.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
