48:12 Note: KJB: Ps.48.11

OET (OET-RV)Walk around Mt. Tsiyyon.
⇔  ≈ Go round about her.
 ⇔  → Count her towers,

None
uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / yousingular

סֹ֣בּוּ צִ֭יּוֹן וְהַקִּיפ֑וּהָ סִ֝פְר֗וּ

(Some words not found in UHB: glad mount_of Tsiyyōn/(Zion) rejoice daughters_of Yehuda because_of judgments_of,your )

The instances of the implied “you” in the imperatives Circle, go around, and Count are plural because the psalmist is addressing many people. In the next verse, the terms “your” and “you” and the instances of the implied “you” in the imperatives are plural for the same reason. So use plural forms in your translation if your language marks that distinction.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

סֹ֣בּוּ צִ֭יּוֹן וְהַקִּיפ֑וּהָ

(Some words not found in UHB: glad mount_of Tsiyyōn/(Zion) rejoice daughters_of Yehuda because_of judgments_of,your )

These two phrases mean basically the same thing. The second emphasizes the meaning of the first by repeating the same idea with different words. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could combine them and express the emphasis in another way. Alternate translation: [Go all the way around Zion]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

סֹ֣בּוּ צִ֭יּוֹן

(Some words not found in UHB: glad mount_of Tsiyyōn/(Zion) rejoice daughters_of Yehuda because_of judgments_of,your )

Since a mountain does not have towers, here Zion represents the city of Jerusalem. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [Circle the city on Mount Zion] or [Circle Jerusalem]
