The psalmist means that he and his fellow Judeans have compared the covenant faithfulness that God showed on this occasion with the past covenant faithfulness that their ancestors related to them, as described in the previous verse. You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [We have compared your present covenant faithfulness with your past covenant faithfulness]
