OET (OET-LV)And the armies in the heaven was_following after_him on horses white, having_dressed_in linen white pure.

OET (OET-RV)and the armies in heaven were following him on white horses, all dressed in fine linen—white and clean.

SIL Open Translator’s Notes:

Section 19:11–21: The rider on a white horse conquered his enemies

In this section, John saw a rider on a white horse. An army followed him. An angel called to the birds to gather. The beast gathered his army, but they lost the battle. Someone captured the beast and the false prophet and threw them into the lake of fire. Birds ate the bodies of the defeated soldiers.

Other examples of headings for this section are:

Jesus fought against the beast and false prophet

The one riding a white horse won the battle

19:14a

The armies of heaven,

armies: This word refers to large groups of soldiers.

These verses do not say whether the soldiers are angels (as in Matthew 26:53) or believers (as in Revelation 17:14). If possible, do not say in your translation whether the soldiers are angels or believers.

Some language must say who is in the army. If possible, refer to soldiers without naming them as people or angels. If you must name people or angels, you should refer to believers (as in Revelation 17:14). You may then want to explain the word in a footnote. An example footnote is:

The Greek words do not say here whether these armies are armies of angels or armies of believers. But 17:14 refers to an army of believers. The plural word “armies” may imply both kinds of armies.

19:14b

dressed in fine linen, white and pure,

dressed in fine linen: Here the word fine indicates that the linen was very good quality. The word linen refers to expensive cloth made from a plant called flax. See how you translated this phrase in 18:12 or 19:8.

19:14c

follow Him on white horses.

follow Him: Here the phrase follow Him indicates that the armies went where the rider went.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

ἐνδεδυμένοι βύσσινον

˓having˒_dressed_in linen

If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [wearing fine linen]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

19:14 Christ’s armies of heaven, dressed in victorious white and riding on white horses, contrast with the locust forces of the abyss (9:3-11), the three frog-like evil spirits (16:13), and the defeated armies at Armageddon (16:16; see also 19:19).
