If it would be more natural in your language, you may want to put the information about the thickness of the wood of his spear before the information that Elhanan struck Goliath the Gittite. In some languages, that might help emphasize the strength and courage of Elhanan, which the author wishes to highlight here. Alternate translation: [fought Goliath the Gittite. Even thought the wood of his spear was like the beam of weavers, Elhanan struck him]

יַעְרֵ֨י אֹרְגִ֜ים

Jaare- -oregim

The traditional Hebrew text reads “Jaare Oregim” here. The ULT follows that reading. The parallel passage in [1 Chronicles 20:5](../../1ch/20/05.md) reads “Jair.” That may have been the original reading, since the word “oregim” means “weavers” and occurs later in the verse. It may have accidentally been copied here. If a translation of the Bible exists in your region, you may wish to use the reading that it uses. If a translation of the Bible does not exist in your region, you may wish to use the reading of the ULT.

A beam of weavers was the thick, strong beam on which weavers hung their fabric. If your readers would not be familiar with this, in your translation you could use the name of a similar thing that your readers would recognize, or you could use a general expression. Alternate translation: [was like the thick, strong beam on which weavers hang their fabric]
