The Gibeonites’ request to hang Saul’s descendants was a symbolic action by which they sought to avenge themselves on Saul’s family and restore justice for the harm he had done to them. In this culture, seven was a number symbolic of completeness. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could explain the significance of this action in the text of your translation or in a footnote. Alternate translation: [let seven men from his sons be given to us, and we will execute them as a just consequence of Saul’s crime against us]

The expression be given to us is a passive verbal form. If your language would not use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [give us seven men from his sons]

Here, the Gibeonites are speaking as if Saul’s sons were actually sons he had personally fathered. They mean his descendants, including grandsons and other male relatives. The Gibeonites are using the common expression of their culture before Yahweh to mean that Yahweh would witness their act of justice. If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [where Yahweh can see that justice has been done]

The Gibeonites are using the adjective chosen as a noun to mean a certain kind of person. Your language may use adjectives in the same way. If not, you can translate this adjective with an equivalent phrase. Alternate translation: [the one whom Yahweh chose to be king]

David is stating the pronoun I separately, even though the verb translated as I will give already includes this meaning. He is doing that because he is making a promise to the Gibeonites. If a speaker of your language would use an explicit pronoun for the same purpose, you may want to use that construction in your translation. If not, your language may have other ways of showing that David is making a promise. It may not be necessary to represent the separately stated pronoun explicitly. Alternate translation: [I promise that I will give]
