TSNTyndale Study Notes:

14:1-7 Even though the Ark was not present in Jerusalem (13:1-14), God blessed David’s palace, his children, and his conquest of the Philistines. God’s blessing did not depend on the presence of the Ark. These blessings eventually encouraged David to carry out his original plan to bring the Ark into Jerusalem (15:1-29).

(Occurrence 0) established him as

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_knew Dāvid that/for/because/then/when established,him YHWH as,king on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in Yisrael that/for/because/then/when exalted to,above, his/its=kingdom in=account_of people,his Yisrael )

Alternate translation: “made him”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

(Occurrence 0) his kingdom was exalted on high

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_knew Dāvid that/for/because/then/when established,him YHWH as,king on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in Yisrael that/for/because/then/when exalted to,above, his/its=kingdom in=account_of people,his Yisrael )

The idiom “exalted on high” means that Yahweh had given great honor to David’s kingdom. If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “Yahweh had exalted David’s kingdom on high” or “Yahweh had given great honor to David’s kingdom” (See also: figs-activepassive)

(Occurrence 0) for the sake of his people Israel

Here the word “his” refers to Yahweh.
