TSNTyndale Study Notes:

8:1-66 Solomon’s building activities climaxed with the Ark’s move to the newly erected Temple. The king offered both prayer (8:22-53) and words of praise and blessing (8:56-61) to dedicate the Temple for the Lord’s service. After the dedication, the assembled gathering enjoyed the great Festival of Shelters. The focus of the account is on Solomon praising God and blessing the people (8:12-61).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

in order for my name to be

(Some words not found in UHB: from/more_than the=day which/who brought_~_out DOM people_of,my DOM Yisrael from=Miʦrayim/(Egypt) not chosen in/on/at/with,city from=all tribes_of Yisrael to,build house to=be name_of,my there and,chosen in/on/at/with,David to=be on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in people_of,my Yisrael )

The word “name” is a metonym for the person, and “for … name” refers to worshiping the person. See how you translated similar words in [1 Kings 3:2](../03/02.md). Alternate translation: “so that people would worship me”
