ULTAnd Moses took them from on their hands, and he caused them to become smoke on the altar, on the burnt offering. They were an ordination offering for a scent of pleasing. It was a gift to Yahweh.

USTThen Moses took all those things from the upturned, open hands of Aaron and his sons, and completely burned them on the altar, on top of the sacrifices that Moses was already burning, in a way that caused smoke to go up. By offering these items in this way, the sacrifice fulfilled the requirements for the appointing sacrifice. Yahweh enjoyed the smell of the smoke, and he considered this sacrifice to be a gift to him.

BSBThen Moses took these from their hands and burned them on the altar with the burnt offering. This was an ordination offering, a pleasing aroma, a food offering to the LORD.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

8:1-36 In Exod 28–29, the Lord gave Moses specific instructions for clothing and for ordaining Aaron and his sons as priests. In Exod 39:1-31; 40:12-16; and Lev 8, the commands were carried out. Moses didn’t just pass along the instructions verbally; he enacted the rituals to provide an example for the priests down to the last detail, just as the Lord had commanded him (8:9, 13, 17, 21, 29). Because the penalty for disobedience was death, God made sure the priests knew exactly what to do.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: writing-pronouns

וַיִּקַּ֨ח מֹשֶׁ֤ה אֹתָם֙

and=he/it_took Mosheh DOM=them

Here, the pronoun them refers to the fat portions, the right thigh, and all of the loaves of bread. If it would be helpful, consider making the referent explicit. Alternate translation: [And Moses took the portions of fat, the right thigh, and the loaves of bread]
