TSNTyndale Study Notes:

8:1-36 In Exod 28–29, the Lord gave Moses specific instructions for clothing and for ordaining Aaron and his sons as priests. In Exod 39:1-31; 40:12-16; and Lev 8, the commands were carried out. Moses didn’t just pass along the instructions verbally; he enacted the rituals to provide an example for the priests down to the last detail, just as the Lord had commanded him (8:9, 13, 17, 21, 29). Because the penalty for disobedience was death, God made sure the priests knew exactly what to do.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: writing-pronouns

וַיַּ֥ז מִמֶּ֛נּוּ

and,sprinkled from=him/it

The pronoun it refers to the oil of anointing referenced in the previous verse. If it would be helpful for your readers, consider making the referent explicit. Alternate translation: “And he sprinkled some of the oil of anointing”

כָּל־ כֵּלָ֗יו

all/each/any/every utensils,its

Alternate translation: “every pot, pan, shovel, and fork used at the altar in the tent of meeting”

Note 2 topic: translate-unknown

וְאֶת־הַכִּיֹּ֛ר

and=DOM and=DOM the,basin

This basin was a large bronze tub that was filled with water and used for ritual washing. It is described in Exodus 30:17–21. If your language has a term for a religious item of this type, consider using it here. If not, consider using a generic term. Alternate translation: “and the special bronze tub”

Note 3 topic: translate-unknown

כַּנּ֖וֹ

stand,its

This base was made of bronze. On top of it sat the basin. It is mentioned in Exodus 30:18, where the basin is also described. If your language has a term for a religious item of this type, consider using it here. If not, consider using a generic term. Alternate translation: “and the bronze stand for the basin”

Note 4 topic: grammar-connect-logic-goal

לְקַדְּשָֽׁם׃

(Some words not found in UHB: and,sprinkled from=him/it on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in the,altar seven times and,anointed DOM the,altar and=DOM all/each/any/every utensils,its and=DOM the,basin and=DOM stand,its to,consecrate,them )

Here, the word to marks consecrate as the goal or purpose of sprinkling them with the oil of anointing. Use a connector in your language that makes it clear that this is the purpose. It may be helpful to start a new sentence here. Alternate translation, with a period before: “He did this to make them holy”
