OET (OET-LV)And the believers from the_circumcision, as_many_as came_together the with_Petros marvelled, that the gift of_the holy spirit has_been_poured_out even on the pagans.

OET (OET-RV) The Jewish believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the holy spirit had been poured out even on non-Jews

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / nominaladj

οἱ & πιστοὶ

the & believers

Luke is using the adjective faithful as a noun, to mean people who have faith in Jesus. Your language may use adjectives in the same way. If not, you could translate this word with an equivalent phrase. Alternate translation: “the faithful men”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

ἐκ περιτομῆς

from /the/_circumcision

Luke is using the term circumcision by association to identify these faithful people as Jewish. Alternate translation: “who were Jewish”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

ἡ δωρεὰ τοῦ Ἁγίου Πνεύματος ἐκκέχυται

the gift ˱of˲_the Holy Spirit /has_been/_poured_out

If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “God was pouring out the gift of the Holy Spirit”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

ἐκκέχυται

/has_been/_poured_out

Luke is speaking of the Holy Spirit as if he were a liquid that could be poured on people. This image implies a generous amount. Alternate translation: “was generously given”

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / possession

ἡ δωρεὰ τοῦ Ἁγίου Πνεύματος

the gift ˱of˲_the Holy Spirit

Luke is using a possessive form to identify the Holy Spirit as a gift from God. Alternate translation: “the Holy Spirit as a gift”

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ ἔθνη

and even on the pagans

Here, also refers to the fact that the Holy Spirit had already been given to the Jewish believers. Alternate translation: “on the Gentiles, as it had been on Jewish believers”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

10:44-48 On the day of Pentecost, Peter told the assembly that if they would repent, turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins, they would receive “the gift of the Holy Spirit” (2:38; cp. 19:1-7). As Cornelius and his household listened to Peter’s message, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, too, and they were baptized. They received the Holy Spirit just as the Jews did, so clearly God had shown no partiality (10:34-35). This event parallels the day of Pentecost in Jerusalem (2:1-47) and marks the spread of the Holy Spirit’s power to Gentiles (1:8; 2:39).
