OET (OET-LV) grace to_you_all and peace from god the_father of_us and the_master Yaʸsous chosen_one/messiah.
Paul began his letter to the Corinthian believers by greeting them. Then he thanked God for helping them.
In this paragraph, Paul, along with Sosthenes, sent greetings to the church in Corinth. In the Greek text, as in the BSB, 1:1–3 is a single long sentence. You may want to translate it in shorter sentences with three main topics:
The writer was Paul.
Paul wrote to the members of the church in Corinth.
Paul prayed that God would bless them.
See the Display on 1:1–3 for suggestions.
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I pray that God our(incl) Father and the Lord Jesus Christ will give you grace and peace.
May God our(incl) Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be kind/gracious/compassionate toward you and cause you to live in peace.
I pray that God, who is like a father to us, and the Lord Jesus Christ may be gracious to you. May he cause you believers to live together peacefully.
Grace and peace to you: The phrase Grace and peace to you was a common Christian greeting. Paul included a similar greeting near the beginning of every letter he wrote. It is a prayer that can be translated as:
I pray/wish that God will give you grace and peace.
May God give you grace and peace.
Grace: The Greek word that the BSB translates as Grace refers to God’s love and kindness toward people. People have done nothing to deserve this love and kindness.
Some other ways to translate it in this context are:
kindness
generous help
In many languages it may be more natural to translate Grace with a verb or clause. Some examples are:
My prayer is that God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ will be kind to you. (CEV)
-or-
I pray/wish that God will generously help you.
May God show his favor to you.
peace: The Greek word that the BSB translates as peace refers to general personal well-being. It indicates peaceful relations with God and also other people. Some other ways to translate this are:
I pray/wish that God bring/send/give you peace.
I pray that God will cause you to be at peace.
God our Father: God is the Father of believers since he is the one who has created them. He has given them spiritual life. God is also like a father in the sense that he takes care of his children. Therefore, they should obey him and trust him. In some languages it may be more natural to translate this as a simile. For example:
God, who is like a father to us
Note 1 topic: translate-blessing
χάρις ὑμῖν καὶ εἰρήνη ἀπὸ Θεοῦ Πατρὸς ἡμῶν καὶ Κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ
grace ˱to˲_you_all (Some words not found in SR-GNT: χάρις ὑμῖν καί εἰρήνη ἀπό Θεοῦ Πατρός ἡμῶν καί Κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ)
After stating his name and the name of the person to whom he is writing, Paul adds a blessing for the Corinthians. Use a form that people would recognize as a blessing in your language. Alternate translation: [May you experience kindness and peace within you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus the Messiah] or [I pray that grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus the Messiah will always be with you]
OET (OET-LV) grace to_you_all and peace from god the_father of_us and the_master Yaʸsous chosen_one/messiah.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
