OET (OET-LV)And_raised_up YHWH judges and_delivered_them from_power plundered_them.

OET (OET-RV)Then Yahweh gave them leaders[fn] to save them from the raiders.

2:16 Traditionally called ‘judges’ in most English translations, but that modern term doesn’t fit their various functions in this account at all well. (‘Leaders’ isn’t perfect either but it’s generic enough to cover most of their roles.)

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

וַיָּ֥קֶם יְהוָ֖ה שֹֽׁפְטִ֑ים

and,raised_up YHWH judges

The author is speaking as if Yahweh had literally raised up these judges, that is, as if Yahweh had lifted them up to a high place. If it would be clearer in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “Yahweh provided judges”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

2:10-19 Joshua was dead, the new generation had not experienced God’s saving power, and the Canaanites continued to live in the land. What resulted was the cycle of rebellion and partial restoration. This section introduces that cycle, which the body of the book exemplifies.

OET (OET-RV)Then Yahweh gave them leaders[fn] to save them from the raiders.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
