The phrase sons of the prophets refers to members of groups of young men who were being trained to become prophets by older men who were experienced prophets. If your readers would not be familiar with what this phrase means, you could use a more general term or explain it in a footnote. If you have already translated the book of 1 Kings, see how you translated the similar expression in [1 Kings 20:35](../1ki/20/35.md). Alternate translation: [some young prophets in training]

The author is speaking of Elijah as if he were over Elisha’s head in the sense of being physically above him. He means that Elijah is Elisha’s master and leader. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly, here and in verse 5. Alternate translation: [is taking away the master who is in authority over you]

Elisha is stating the pronoun I separately, even though the verb translated as I … know already includes this meaning. He is doing that to emphasize his personal awareness of what Yahweh will do that day. If a speaker of your language would use an explicit pronoun for the same purpose, you may want to use that construction in your translation. If not, your language may have other ways of showing the meaning here and in verse 5. Alternate translation: [For my part, I also know]

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
