OET (OET-RV) Eliyah had told Elisha, “Now, you stay here because Yahweh has told me to go to Beyt-El.”
¶ “By the life of Yahweh,” Elisha had responded, “and by the life of your spirit, I won’t leave you.” So they’d headed to Beyt-El.

If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these phrases, since the second phrase gives the reason for the result that the first phrase describes. Alternate translation: [Since Yahweh has sent me to Bethel, stay here, please]

Following the custom of his culture, Elisha is swearing an oath by guaranteeing it by something that he holds sacred and by stating the first part of a condition (“if”) but not the second part (“then”). Use a natural way in your language to express an oath. In a context such as this, it may be natural to express just the first part of the condition as a negative statement, here and in verses 4 and 6. Alternate translation: [I swear by Yahweh and I swear by your own life that I will not leave you]

Elisha is using one part of Elijah, his soul, to mean all of him. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [and your own life]

In keeping with what is usual for his language and culture, the author is marking travel for change in elevation. If this expression contains extra information that would not be natural to express in your language, you could shorten it. See how you translated the similar expression “go up” in [1:3](../01/03.md). Alternate translation: [And they went to Bethel]
