The psalmist is speaking of Yahweh as if he were actually a refuge, that is, a place where people can go to be safe from danger. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. See how you translated the term “refuge” in [14:6](../014/006.md). Alternate translation: [God protects us and makes us strong]

The psalmist could be using the terms refuge and strength together to express a single idea. The word strength would tell what kind of refuge God is. If you follow this interpretation in your translation, and if it would be more natural in your language, you could express this meaning in a different way. Alternate translation: [God is our strong refuge] or [God powerfully protects us]
