OET (OET-RV)So if we died with Messiah, we also believe that we will live with him,

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: grammar-connect-condition-fact

εἰ

if

In this verse, Paul is making a conditional statement that sounds hypothetical, but he is already convinced that the condition is true. Use a natural form in your language for introducing a condition that the speaker believes is true. Alternate translation: [because]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

ἀπεθάνομεν σὺν Χριστῷ

˱we˲_died_off (Some words not found in SR-GNT: εἰ Δέ ἀπεθάνομεν σύν Χριστῷ πιστεύομεν ὅτι καί συζήσομεν αὐτῷ)

Paul speaks of Christians as if they physically died with Christ. He means that through baptism Christians show that they participate in the spiritual benefits obtained by Christ’s death and will one day live together with him. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [we are united to Christ’s death when baptized]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

πιστεύομεν

˱we˲_˓are˒_believing

Paul implies that since Christians have died with Christ, the result is that they have confidence that they will live together with him. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state this explicitly. Alternate translation: [we are confident] or [this persuades us]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

καὶ συνζήσομεν αὐτῷ

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: εἰ Δέ ἀπεθάνομεν σύν Χριστῷ πιστεύομεν ὅτι καί συζήσομεν αὐτῷ)

Here Paul implies that live together with him refers to “eternal life”, as he mentioned in [5:21](../05/21.md) and [6:4–5](../06/04.md). If it would be helpful in your language, you could state this explicitly. Alternate translation: [we will also live forever with him]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

6:8 We will also live with him refers to bodily resurrection with Christ (see 6:5). While believers are already raised with Christ spiritually (Eph 2:5-6; Col 2:13), we will also be raised with him bodily at the time of his coming in glory (2 Cor 4:14; Phil 3:21; 1 Thes 4:17; 2 Tim 2:11).
