ULTFor if indeed one coming proclaims another Jesus whom we did not proclaim, or you receive a different spirit which you did not receive or a different gospel which you did not accept, you are bearing with it well!

USTI fear for you because I know that people visit you and tell you about Jesus, but it is not the same Jesus we told you about. Others offer you a spirit, but it is not the Holy Spirit that we offered to you. Others proclaim good news to you, but it is not the same good news that you first believed. Despite that, you are very patient when people tell you about these things.

BSBFor if someone comes and proclaims a Jesus other than the One we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit than the One you received, or a different gospel than the one you accepted, you put up with it way too easily.

BLBFor if indeed the one coming proclaims another Jesus whom we did not proclaim, or you receive a different spirit whom you did not receive, or a different gospel which you did not accept, you are bearing with it well.

AICNTFor if the one coming proclaims another Jesus whom we did not proclaim, or you receive a different spirit which you did not receive, or a different gospel which you did not accept, you put up with it well.

OEBFor, if some newcomer is proclaiming a Jesus other than him whom we proclaimed, or if you are receiving a Spirit different from the Spirit which you received, or a good news different from that which you welcomed, then you are marvellously tolerant!

WEBBEFor if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we didn’t preach, or if you receive a different spirit which you didn’t receive, or a different “good news” which you didn’t accept, you put up with that well enough.

WMBBFor if he who comes preaches another Yeshua whom we didn’t proclaim, or if you receive a different spirit which you didn’t receive, or a different “good news” which you didn’t accept, you put up with that well enough.

NETFor if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus different from the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit than the one you received, or a different gospel than the one you accepted, you put up with it well enough!

LSVfor if, indeed, he who is coming preaches another Jesus whom we did not preach, or you receive another spirit which you did not receive, or other good news which you did not accept—well were you bearing [it],

FBVIf anyone comes and tells you about a different Jesus to the one we shared with you, you easily go along with them,[fn] accepting a different spirit to the one you received, and a different kind of good news to the one you believed.

11:4 In other words, they are too tolerant of others who come with a very different understanding of the good news.

TCNTFor if someone comes to you and preaches a different message about Jesus than the one we preached, or if you receive a different spirit than the one you received, or a different gospel than the one you accepted, you bear with it well enough.

T4TI say that because some people have come among you who are teaching their own thoughts about Jesus. They are saying about him things that are entirely different from what I taught you. They are urging you to receive a powerful spirit who would come to live in you, but it is not the same Spirit that you received from God when you believed in Christ. They preach what they call a good message, and you accept their message, even though it is not the same as the good message about Christ that you heard from me. And you have gladly accepted them and their message!

LEBFor if the one who comes proclaims another Jesus whom we have not proclaimed, or you receive a different spirit which you did not receive, or a different gospel which you did not accept, you put up with it well enough!

BBEFor if anyone comes preaching another Jesus from the one whose preachers we are, or if you have got a different spirit, or a different sort of good news from those which came to you, how well you put up with these things.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

11:4 The false missionaries in Corinth evidently preached a different Jesus, a different kind of Spirit, and a different kind of gospel than the one the Corinthians had believed. It is difficult to know exactly what these false teachers preached; most likely, they promoted a powerful, dominant Christ and sidelined the suffering of the cross. They probably saw themselves as equally powerful preachers, exempt from hardship and trial. Paul’s message, by contrast, centered on Christ crucified (13:4), and Paul’s own sufferings were a mark of true apostleship (12:1-12). The nature of this difference is the heart of Paul’s defense of his apostleship in chs 10–13.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result

γὰρ

for

Here, the word For could introduce a reason why: (1) Paul is afraid that someone will corrupt the Corinthians (See: 11:3). Alternate translation: I am afraid of that because] (2) the Corinthians should “bear with” Paul (See: [11:1), which is that they “bear with” these false teachers. Alternate translation: [You should bear with me because]

Note 2 topic: grammar-connect-condition-fact

εἰ μὲν & ὁ ἐρχόμενος

if indeed & the_‹one› coming

Here Paul is speaking as if one coming to the Corinthians and proclaiming another Jesus were a hypothetical possibility, but he means that it had already or will actually happen. If your language does not state something as a condition if it is certain or true, and if your readers might misunderstand and think that what Paul is saying is not certain, then you could express the idea by using a word such as “when.” Alternate translation: [when indeed one coming] or [indeed whenever someone comes and]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

ὁ ἐρχόμενος

the_‹one› coming

Here Paul could be referring to: (1) any person or group of people. Alternate translation: [anyone coming] or [any person coming] (2) a specific person whom Paul knows about. Alternate translation: [a person coming] or [that person coming]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

πνεῦμα ἕτερον

/a/_spirit another

Here, the phrase a different spirit could refer to: (1) an evil spirit in contrast to the Holy Spirit. Alternate translation: [a spirit different than the Holy Spirit] (2) an attitude in contrast to the attitude that Paul and his fellow workers offered to the Corinthians. Alternate translation: [a different mindset] or [a different attitude]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

καλῶς ἀνέχεσθε

well ˱you_all˲_/are/_tolerating

See how you translated the similar phrase in 11:1. Here Paul means that the Corinthians listen patiently even when false teachers are telling them lies. He does not approve of this behavior, but he uses this clause to link what he is saying here with what he said in 11:1. Alternate translation: [you willingly put up with it] or [you listen attentively to it]
