Note: This view shows ‘verses’ which are not natural language units and hence sometimes only part of a sentence will be visible. Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed for doing comparisons of different translations. Click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. The OET segments on this page are still very early looks into the unfinished texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

ClVg Numquid justificari potest homo comparatus Deo? aut apparere mundus natus de muliere?[fn]
(Numquid justificari potest human comparatus Deo? aut apparere mundus natus about muliere? )
25.4 Nunquid justificari. Quia per mulierem culpæ subditam nascitur homo, reatus primi infirmitas in prole propagatur.
25.4 Nunquid justificari. Because through mulierem culpæ subditam nascitur homo, reatus primi infirmitas in prole propagatur.
25:4 Eliphaz had said that it is nearly impossible to be innocent or pure (4:17-19; 15:14-16), and then only after suffering (22:21-23). Bildad claimed that only the totally blameless could hope to be pure (8:20).
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion
וּמַה־יִּצְדַּ֣ק אֱנ֣וֹשׁ עִם־אֵ֑ל וּמַה־יִּ֝זְכֶּ֗ה יְל֣וּד אִשָּֽׁה
and,how righteous ʼEnōshh with god and,how pure born woman/wife
Bildad is using the question form for emphasis. If you would not use the question form for that purpose in your language, you could translate this as a statement or as an exclamation. Alternate translation: “A man cannot be righteous with God! One born of a woman cannot be clean!”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / gendernotations
אֱנ֣וֹשׁ
ʼEnōshh
Here the masculine term man has a generic sense that includes both men and women. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could use language in your translation that is clearly inclusive of both men and women. Alternate translation: “a person”
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
יְל֣וּד אִשָּֽׁה
born woman/wife
See how you translated this expression in 15:14. Alternate translation: “a mortal”
