5 Then Yahweh came down in the cloud and stood with him there, and he pronounced his name ‘Yahweh’. 6 Yahweh passed over above his face and proclaimed, “I am Yahweh, a compassionate and gracious God, slow to get angry but exuding faithfulness and trustworthiness.[ref] 7 I display faithfulness to thousands of generations—forgiving disobedience, transgression, and sin. But I certainly won’t let the guilty get away with it—visiting the iniquity of the parents onto the children and onto the grandchildren—to the third and the fourth generations.”
8 Mosheh hurried and bowed to the ground and worshipped Yahweh 9 and said, “Please, if I have found favour in your sight, my master, please go with us, because these are stubborn people. And forgive our disobedience and our sin and take us as your inheritance.”

8 Yahweh is gracious and merciful,[ref]
slow to get angry and generous in his loyal commitment to us.
9 He won’t keep bringing cases against us,
≈ or hold them open forever.
10 He doesn’t give us what our rebellion deserves,
≈ or repay us according to how much we disobeyed.
11 Just as the heavens are far above the earth,
so his loyal commitment is strong towards those who obey him.
12 As far as the east is from the west,
he’s removed the guilt for our disobedience that far away.
13 Yahweh has compassion on those who obey him,
just like a father has compassion on his children
14 because he knows how we’re made—
remembering that we’re just dust.
15 As for humankind, their days are like grass that comes and goes.
≈ People are like flowers in the countryside that are here today and gone tomorrow
16 because the wind blows across them and they’re finished
≈ then the next day you can’t even tell where they were.
17 But Yahweh’s loyal commitment to those who honour him continues forever,
≈ and he gives his favour through to their children’s children—
18 to the people who keep his agreement,
≈ and all those who are careful to obey his instructions.
6 You must do that because you’re a group of people who belong only to your god Yahweh. He’s chosen you from all the people groups in the world to be his own special people.[ref]
7 Yahweh loved you and chose you all, not because you were the most populous nation (in fact, you were the smallest of all the nations), 8 but because Yahweh loves you all and because he kept the promise that he’d made to your ancestors. Yahweh used his power to rescue you all from the slavery imposed by Mitsrayim’s (Egypt) King Par’oh (Pharaoh). 9 So remember that your god Yahweh is God—the faithful god who keeps agreements and displays loyal commitment toward a thousand generations of those who love him and obey what he’s commanded.[ref] 10 However, to those who hate him, he won’t hesitate to pay them back with punishment and destruction. 11 So be sure to obey all the instructions, rules, and regulations that I’m giving you today.

A song[fn] of Eytan, one of Ezra’s descendants.
1 I will sing of Yahweh’s acts of loyal commitment forever.
≈ I will proclaim your truthfulness to future generations.
2 because I’ve said, “Loyal commitment has been established forever.
≈ You have established your truthfulness in the heavens.”
3 “I have made an agreement with my chosen one,
≈ I’ve made a promise to my servant David.
4 I will establish your descendants forever,
≈ and I will establish your throne through all generations.”[ref] (Instrumental break.)
5 ≈ The heavens praise your wonders, Yahweh.
Your truthfulness is praised in the assembly of the holy ones
6 because who in the heavens can be compared to Yahweh?
≈ Who among the sons of the gods is like Yahweh?
7 He’s a god who is greatly honoured in the council of the holy ones
≈ and is awesome among all who are around him.
8 Commander-in-chief Yahweh, God,

22 Yahweh’s loyal commitment doesn’t cease.
23 His loyal commitment and his mercy are new morning by morning.
24 “Yahweh is my portion,” I told myself,
“therefore, I’ll place my hope in him.”

6 While we were still weak, and at the right time for ungodly people, the messiah died for us. 7 Now it’s rare for someone to offer to die to save a guiltless person, although perhaps someone might offer for the greater good, 8 but God demonstrated his love towards us in that the messiah died for us while we were still sinners!
9 So now that we’ve been declared guiltless because of his blood, we’ll certainly be spared from his severe anger, 10 because if we were reconciled to God through the death of his son while we were still enemies, now that we’ve been reconciled, how much more certain that we’ll be saved by Yeshua’s (Jesus; Grk. Yesus) life! 11 ⇔And not only that, because of what our master Yeshua Messiah has done so that we might receive that reconciliation, we can now boast in God about it.
14 That’s why I’m kneeling to ask the father 15 (the one that every father in the heavens and on earth is named after) 16 ⇔that he would cause you to be strengthened inside your minds by the power of his spirit and from the riches of his greatness. 17 Through your faith, the messiah can live in your hearts so that love will become your root and foundation 18 so that just like the dedicated ones, you all will also be strong enough to understand the width and length and height and depth of 19 the messiah’s love, and to know that having this love exceeds having knowledge so that you all can be filled with God’s completeness.
20-21 ⇔Now we offer praise to God in the church and for all the generations to come and to Yeshua (Jesus; Grk. Yesus) the messiah—God who, through the power that works in us, is able to do far more than we can ask for or even understand. May it be so.
7 Dear friends, we need to be loving each other, because love is from God and everyone who truly loves has been reborn into God and knows God. 8 Those who don’t love, don’t love God because God is love. 9 God’s love was revealed to us when he sent his only son to be born into the world so that we can live through him. 10 So this is real love, not us loving God, but God loving us and sending his son to be the sacrifice to clear us of the sentence from our sins.
11 Dear friends, if God loves us like that, we ought to be loving each other. 12 No one has ever seen God,[ref] but when we are loving each other then God is living in us, and his love is being perfected in us.
13 We can know that we are living in him and him in us because he has given to us from his spirit. 14 And we have seen and are testifying that the father sent the son—the saviour of the world. 15 Anyone who confesses that Yeshua (Jesus; Grk. Yesus) is God’s son, God lives in that person and they live in God. 16 We have known and experienced the love that God has in us.
God is love, and anyone who lives in love, lives in God, and God lives in them. 17 This is how love will be perfected in us so that we can live with confidence about the coming judgement day: we live like Yeshua in this world. 18 There’s no fear in love, but rather perfect love drives away fear, because our fear is that of being punished but the one fearing has not been perfected in love.
19 We love others because he loved us first. 20 Anyone who says that they are loving God but hates a fellow believer, that person is liar because if someone can’t love a fellow believer that they’ve seen, they can’t love God who they’ve never seen. 21 So we have this command from Yeshua that anyone who loves God must also love their fellow believers.
