Click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. MSG (7-10)God wasn’t attracted to you and didn’t choose you because you were big and important—the fact is, there was almost nothing to you. He did it out of sheer love, keeping the promise he made to your ancestors. God stepped in and mightily bought you back out of that world of slavery, freed you from the iron grip of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know this: God, your God, is God indeed, a God you can depend upon. He keeps his covenant of loyal love with those who love him and observe his commandments for a thousand generations. But he also pays back those who hate him, pays them the wages of death; he isn’t slow to pay them off—those who hate him, he pays right on time.

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism
and,repays to,hate,him to/towards his/its=faces/face to,destroy,them not slow with,hates,him to/towards his/its=faces/face repay to=him/it
These two sentences mean basically the same thing. The second emphasizes the meaning of the first by repeating the same idea with different words. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could connect the sentences with a word that shows that the second sentence is repeating the first one, not saying something additional. Alternate translation: “and he repays those who hate him to his face, to destroy him. Indeed, he will not delay with him who hates him; he will repay him to his face”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / synecdoche
אֶל־פָּנָ֖יו & אֶל־פָּנָ֖יו
to/towards his/its=faces/face & to/towards his/its=faces/face
Moses is using face to represent all of a person. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression from your culture or state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “personally” … “personally”
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / litotes
לֹ֤א יְאַחֵר֙
not slow
Moses is using a figure of speech here that expresses a strongly positive meaning by using a negative word, not, together with an expression that is the opposite of the intended meaning. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express the positive meaning. Alternate translation: “He will act swiftly”
