OET (OET-LV)And of_the soldiers, the_counsel became that they_may_kill_off the prisoners, lest anyone having_swum_away may_escape.

OET (OET-RV) At this point the soldiers decided that they should kill the prisoners in case any of them decided to swim away and escape,

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

27:42-44 Even in a crisis, the prisoners remained the responsibility of the soldiers (see 12:19; 16:27; 27:32; see study note on 16:27). Fortunately, the commanding officer intervened on their behalf. It was a clear indication of God’s protection and favor that all 276 people made it safely to shore, precisely fulfilling the angel’s promise (see 27:24).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Greek words that they’re translated from.
