OET (OET-LV)From_all the_troops the_this seven hundred(s) man chosen impeded the_hand right_of_him all this [was]_slinging in/on/at/with_stone to the_hair and_not he_missed.

OET (OET-RV)Among all of those people were seven hundred chosen left-handers, each of whom could sling a stone at a hair without missing.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

impeded in his right hand

(Some words not found in UHB: from=all the,troops the=this seven hundreds (a)_man chosen bound_of hand_of right_of,him all/each/any/every this sling in/on/at/with,stone to/towards the,hair and=not miss )

See how you translated the similar expression in 3:15. Alternate translation: “who were left-handed”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / hyperbole

each of them slinging with a stone at a hair and he would not miss

(Some words not found in UHB: from=all the,troops the=this seven hundreds (a)_man chosen bound_of hand_of right_of,him all/each/any/every this sling in/on/at/with,stone to/towards the,hair and=not miss )

The author is using an overstatement to emphasize how accurate these soldiers were with their slings. In your translation, you could keep the image but show that it is a comparison. Alternate translation: “who were so accurate with a sling that it seemed they could even aim at a hair and not miss”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

20:16 left-handed: See study note on 3:15.
• The sling was of the same type as the one David used to kill Goliath (1 Sam 17:40-51). The slinger buried a stone in a small pouch attached to a leather thong, then swung it around his head to gain momentum before releasing one end of the thong to shoot the missile. A slinger had the advantage of distance over a swordsman.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
