Here the word For introduces a further explanation. Alternate translation: [There was so much gold and silver because]

The author seems to be using the name Tarshish, most likely a place in southern Spain, at the west end of the Mediterranean Sea, to indicate that this was a fleet of long-range, ocean-going ships that stopped at ports all around the Mediterranean Sea. The three-year length of each voyage supports this understanding. (Furthermore, the author’s statement in [22:48](../22/48.md) that “Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir” supports the idea that this phrase describes the size and range of such ships rather than their destination. Several different locations have been suggested for Ophir, but all would have been reached through the Arabian Sea, and thus by ships sailing in a different direction from Tarshish.) If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language here. Alternate translation: [a fleet of long-range ships]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

(Some words not found in UHB: that/for/because/then/when ships_of Tarshiysh to/for=the_king on,sea with fleet_of Ḩīrām one(fs) to,three years come ships_of Tarshiysh bringing_of gold and,silver ivory and,monkeys and,peacocks )

By on the sea, the author means on the Mediterranean Sea. You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. If so, you may wish to use the name that the ancient Hebrews used for that sea. Alternate translation: [on the Mediterranean Sea] or [on the Great Sea]

The author is using One in three years as a common expression of his culture to mean “once every three years.” If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [Once every three years]

An elephant is a very large land mammal. The term tusks describes the two long, protruding teeth that elephants have. These consist of ivory, a beautiful and valuable substance.
