Following the custom of her culture, the woman is swearing an oath by stating the first part of a condition (“if”) but not the second part (“then”). Use a natural way in your language to express an oath. In a context such as this, it may be natural to express just the first part of the condition as a negative statement. See how you translated the similar expression “if he will kill his servant” in [1:51](../01/51.md). Alternate translation: [I swear by Yahweh your God that there is not to me a bread-cake] or [I swear by Yahweh your God that I do not have even so much as a bread-cake]

The widow is using two sticks as a common expression of her culture to mean “a few sticks” or “just enough sticks to make a small fire.” If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [some sticks]

By we will die, the woman does not mean that there is something wrong with the food she has left and it will therefore kill her. She means that she and her son will die of starvation after eating this last meal. Be sure that this is clear in your translation. Alternate translation: [and after that we will have nothing to eat, so we will die of starvation]
