OET (OET-LV)And_came_near ʼĒliyyāh to all the_people and_he/it_said until when [will]_you_all [be]_limping on the_two the_opinions if YHWH the_ʼElohīm walk after_him and_if the_Baˊal walk after_him and_not they_answered the_people DOM_him/it a_word.

OET (OET-RV)and Eliyyah addressed the people, “How much longer are you all going to remain unsure who to follow? If Yahweh is God, follow him, but if it’s Baal, follow him.” But the people just stayed silent.

uW Translation Notes:

Elijah asks this question to urge the people to make a decision. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express this question as a statement. Alternate translation: “You have been indecisive for long enough.”

Alternate translation: “did not say anything” or “were silent”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

18:21 The Hebrew word translated waver means “to be lame” or “to limp.” Elijah compared the people’s hobbling between the worship of the Lord and of Baal to a person who limps awkwardly from one foot to the other. Elijah may have also been referring to the ritual dance performed by Baal’s prophets as they attempted to gain the storm-god’s attention (18:26).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
