OET (OET-LV)And_he/it_was as_passed the_midday and_raved until to_offering the_evening_sacrifice and_there_was_no a_voice and_no one_who_answered and_no attentiveness.

OET (OET-RV)Midday passed and they continued raving all afternoon, but they didn’t hear any voice, and they got no answer or even any suggestion that their god was listening.

uW Translation Notes:

they were still raving

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_was as,passed the,midday and,raved until to,offering the,evening_sacrifice and,there_was_no sound/voice and,no answered and,no paid_attention )

“they continued their wild behavior.” Prophets often acted in ways that seemed unusual or even crazy. In this case they were calling on Baal while dancing, shouting loudly, and cutting themselves with knives.

of offering of the evening sacrifice

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_was as,passed the,midday and,raved until to,offering the,evening_sacrifice and,there_was_no sound/voice and,no answered and,no paid_attention )

Alternate translation: “to offer the evening sacrifice”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

but there was no voice or anyone to answer; there was no one who paid any attention to their pleadings

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_was as,passed the,midday and,raved until to,offering the,evening_sacrifice and,there_was_no sound/voice and,no answered and,no paid_attention )

These phrases share similar meanings and emphasize that no one responded to the prayers of the false prophets. Alternate translation: “but Baal did not say or do anything or even pay attention” (See also: figs-metonymy)

there was no voice or anyone to answer

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_was as,passed the,midday and,raved until to,offering the,evening_sacrifice and,there_was_no sound/voice and,no answered and,no paid_attention )

See how you translated this in [1 Kings 18:26](../18/26.md).

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

18:28-29 shouted . . . cut themselves . . . raved: The prophets of Baal demonstrated ecstatic behavior common in ancient pagan religions, but their efforts produced no response. Of course, there is only one true God (Deut 4:35; 6:4; Isa 44:8); all other hopes are doomed to failure (Isa 45:22).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.

Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
