OET (OET-LV) And_he/it_said to_him/it thus Ben he_says Hₐdad[fn] silver_of_your and_gold_of_your to_me it and_wives_of_your and_children_of_your (the)_good to_me they.
20:3 Note: KJB: 1Kgs.20.3
OET (OET-RV) to tell him, “Ben-Hadad says that your gold and silver are mine, as well as the best of your wives and sons.”
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said to=him/it thus he/it_had_said son_of -hₐdad silver_of,your and,gold_of,your to=me he/it and,wives_of,your and,children_of,your (the),good to=me they )
Ben Hadad did not personally speak the words that follow. His messengers spoke them on his behalf. It may be more natural in your language to use a plural pronoun to indicate this. Alternate translation: [and they said to him]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / quotesinquotes
כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר בֶּן־הֲדַ֔ד כַּסְפְּךָ֥ וּֽזְהָבְךָ֖ לִֽי־ה֑וּא וְנָשֶׁ֧יךָ וּבָנֶ֛יךָ הַטּוֹבִ֖ים לִי־הֵֽם
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said to=him/it thus he/it_had_said son_of -hₐdad silver_of,your and,gold_of,your to=me he/it and,wives_of,your and,children_of,your (the),good to=me they )
If it would be clearer in your language, you could translate this so that there is not a quotation within a quotation. Alternate translation: [Ben Hadad says that your silver and your gold are his, and your best wives and sons are his]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
כַּסְפְּךָ֥ וּֽזְהָבְךָ֖ לִֽי־ה֑וּא וְנָשֶׁ֧יךָ וּבָנֶ֛יךָ הַטּוֹבִ֖ים לִי־הֵֽם
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said to=him/it thus he/it_had_said son_of -hₐdad silver_of,your and,gold_of,your to=me he/it and,wives_of,your and,children_of,your (the),good to=me they )
Ben Hadad assumes that King Ahab will know that he is making a demand backed by the threat of military force. You could say that explicitly if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [If you do not give me your silver and your gold and your best wives and sons, I will destroy this city]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / gendernotations
וּבָנֶ֛יךָ
and,children_of,your
Here the masculine term sons has a generic sense that includes both male and female children. If it would be helpful to your readers, here and in verses 5 and 7 you could use language in your translation that is clearly inclusive of both male and female children. Alternate translation: [and your sons and daughters] or [and your children]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
