וַיַּ֥ךְ אֶת־הַסּ֖וּס וְאֶת־הָרָ֑כֶב
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_went_out king Yisrael and,he_struck_down DOM the,horse[s] and=DOM the,chariotry and,he_defeated (in),Aram slaughter great )
In this verse, the words horse and chariot are singular in form, but they refer to all of Ben Hadad’s horses and chariots. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use plural forms in your translation. Alternate translation: [and he struck the horses and the chariots]
Note 2 topic: writing-poetry
וְהִכָּ֥ה בַאֲרָ֖ם מַכָּ֥ה גְדוֹלָֽה
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_went_out king Yisrael and,he_struck_down DOM the,horse[s] and=DOM the,chariotry and,he_defeated (in),Aram slaughter great )
The author is using a construction in which a verb and its object come from the same root. You may be able to use the same construction in your language to express the meaning here. Alternatively, your language may have another way of saying this. See how you translated the term “struck” in [8:33](../08/33.md). Alternate translation: [And he inflicted a severe defeat on Aram]
OET (OET-LV) And_ the_king_of _he/it_went_out of_Yisrāʼēl/(Israel) and_he_struck_down DOM the_horse[s] and_DOM the_chariotry and_he_defeated (in)_ʼArām a_defeat great.
OET (OET-RV) Then Yisrael’s king led more men out and they attacked the horses and chariots—thoroughly defeating Aram.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
