וּ֠פִיהוּ & וּפִ֨יהָ֙ & פִּ֨יהָ֙ מִקְלָע֔וֹת
and,opening_of,its & and,opening_of,its & (Some words not found in UHB: and,opening_of,its [was]_from,inside_of to,capital and,upward,upwards by,cubit and,opening_of,its round made_of so cubit and_(the),half_of of_(the),cubit and=also on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in her/its=mouth carvings and,rims_of,their square not round )
The pronoun translated as its in the first instance is masculine, so it refers to the “basin” described in the previous verse. The pronoun translated as its in the second and third instances is feminine, so it refers to the capital. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: [And the mouth of the basin … And the mouth of the capital … the mouth of the capital]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
וּ֠פִיהוּ & וּפִ֨יהָ֙
and,opening_of,its & and,opening_of,its
The author is using the term mouth in these first two instances to mean the openings of the basin and the capital. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [And the opening of the basin … And the opening of the capital]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
לַכֹּתֶ֤רֶת
(Some words not found in UHB: and,opening_of,its [was]_from,inside_of to,capital and,upward,upwards by,cubit and,opening_of,its round made_of so cubit and_(the),half_of of_(the),cubit and=also on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in her/its=mouth carvings and,rims_of,their square not round )
The author is using the term capital to describe the structure on top of the stand that he calls a pedestal later in this verse and in [7:29](../07/29.md). He uses that term because the structure was placed on top of the stand, just like the decorative features on top of the pillars that he also calls “capitals” in [7:16–20](../07/16.md). If it would be helpful to your readers, you could use the term “pedestal” here instead to make clear that the author is referring to that, not to the features of the pillars. Alternate translation: [the pedestal]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
וּפִ֨יהָ֙ עָגֹ֣ל מַעֲשֵׂה־כֵ֔ן
and,opening_of,its round (Some words not found in UHB: and,opening_of,its [was]_from,inside_of to,capital and,upward,upwards by,cubit and,opening_of,its round made_of so cubit and_(the),half_of of_(the),cubit and=also on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in her/its=mouth carvings and,rims_of,their square not round )
See the discussion of the phrase the work of in the introduction to this chapter. Alternate translation: [And its mouth was circular because it was made to be a pedestal] or [And its mouth was circular so that it could serve as a pedestal]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis
אַמָּ֖ה וַחֲצִ֣י הָֽאַמָּ֑ה
(Some words not found in UHB: and,opening_of,its [was]_from,inside_of to,capital and,upward,upwards by,cubit and,opening_of,its round made_of so cubit and_(the),half_of of_(the),cubit and=also on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in her/its=mouth carvings and,rims_of,their square not round )
The author is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You can supply these words from the context if that would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: [it was a cubit and half of a cubit across]
Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
וְגַם־עַל־פִּ֨יהָ֙ מִקְלָע֔וֹת
and=also on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in (Some words not found in UHB: and,opening_of,its [was]_from,inside_of to,capital and,upward,upwards by,cubit and,opening_of,its round made_of so cubit and_(the),half_of of_(the),cubit and=also on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in her/its=mouth carvings and,rims_of,their square not round )
Here, the mouth or opening of the capital (pedestal) represents the rim around that opening. The author means that there were carvings on the rim of the pedestal, just as there were on the rim of the sea, as he describes in [7:24](../07/24.md). If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [and there were also carvings around the rim of the pedestal]
Note 7 topic: writing-pronouns
וּמִסְגְּרֹתֵיהֶ֥ם מְרֻבָּע֖וֹת לֹ֥א עֲגֻלּֽוֹת
(Some words not found in UHB: and,opening_of,its [was]_from,inside_of to,capital and,upward,upwards by,cubit and,opening_of,its round made_of so cubit and_(the),half_of of_(the),cubit and=also on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in her/its=mouth carvings and,rims_of,their square not round )
The pronoun their refers to the bronze stands. The author is repeating a detail he described in [7:27–28](../07/27.md) to indicate that these stands had a combination of round and square elements. Alternate translation: [But the panels of the stands were square, not round]
OET (OET-LV) And_opening_of_its was_from_inside_of to_capital and_upward_upwards by_cubit and_opening_of_its was_round the_work_of a_base a_cubit and_(the)_half_of (the)_cubit and_also were_on her/its_mouth carvings and_rims_of_their were_square not round.
OET (OET-RV) Inside those supports there was a round frame that protruded half a metre upwards and was inset by a quarter of a metre. It also had engravings on it inside square frames.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
