Here, the clause until when Asshur takes you captive could be: (1) a statement about when the burning takes place. Alternate translation: [to burn until Asshur takes you captive] (2) a rhetorical question about how long Asshur will keep them as captives. Alternate translation: [to burn; until when will Asshur hold you captive?] or [to burn; Asshur will hold you captive for a long time!]

The verb that the ULT translates as burn often has this meaning in the Hebrew Bible. However, there is another verb with the same consonants that means “destroy” or “devastate,” and the author may have been using that verb here. If a translation of the Bible exists in your region, you may wish to use the reading that it uses. If a translation of the Bible does not exist in your region, you may wish to use the reading of the ULT. Alternate translation: [to destroy] or [to devastate]
