Yahweh is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You can supply these words from the context if that would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: [And you shall take the ransoms of]

Here, ransoms refers to money that must be paid for the additional 273 firstborn mentioned in this verse. Since there were not enough Levites to be in place of these 273 firstborn, God required money in their place. See the discussion of this in the [General Notes](../03/intro.md) for this chapter. Alternate translation: [And the payment for the 273]

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of ransoms, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [And you shall ransom the 273]

The implication is that these were 273 firstborn Israelite males who did not have a corresponding Levite male to take their place. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [the 273 firstborn males who did not have a Levite in their place]

This clause gives further information about the 273. It is not making a distinction between the 273 and the ones being in excess. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make the relationship between these phrases clearer. Alternate translation: [that is, the ones being in excess over the Levites from the firstborn of the sons of Israel]
