uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

אַתָּ֤ה ׀ סֵ֥תֶר לִי֮

(Some words not found in UHB: you(ms) hiding_place to=me from,distress you,will_preserve_me songs_of deliverance you,will_surround_me selah )

Here David is speaking as if Yahweh were actually a hiding place. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [You are the one who causes me to be safe] or [You are like a hiding place for me]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

אַתָּ֤ה ׀ סֵ֥תֶר לִי֮ מִצַּ֪ר תִּ֫צְּרֵ֥נִי

(Some words not found in UHB: you(ms) hiding_place to=me from,distress you,will_preserve_me songs_of deliverance you,will_surround_me selah )

These two phrases You are a hiding place for me and you preserve me from distress mean basically the same thing. The second emphasizes the meaning of the first by repeating the same idea with different words. Hebrew poetry was based on this kind of repetition, and it would be good to show this to your readers by including both phrases in your translation rather than combining them. Alternate translation: [You protect me as my refuge; you keep me safe from trouble]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

מִצַּ֪ר

(Some words not found in UHB: you(ms) hiding_place to=me from,distress you,will_preserve_me songs_of deliverance you,will_surround_me selah )

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of distress, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [from things that cause me trouble] or [when others afflict me]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

רָנֵּ֥י פַלֵּ֑ט תְּס֖וֹבְבֵ֣נִי

(Some words not found in UHB: you(ms) hiding_place to=me from,distress you,will_preserve_me songs_of deliverance you,will_surround_me selah )

The implication is that there will be people around the writer who will be shouting joyfully about how God has rescued him. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [You surround me with people who are celebrating your deliverance with joyful shouts]
