This scab refers to a discolored, hard, crusty portion of skin that forms over an opening in the skin during healing. In some instances, it can be the symptom of an infectious skin disease. The phrase skin disease may be commonly translated as “leprosy,” but, in terms of modern medicine, the phrase actually covers a large range of contagious skin diseases not limited to the modern designation of Hansen’s disease, better known as leprosy. If your language has a word or expression that describes a wide range of infectious and sometimes deadly skin diseases, consider using it here. If not, consider using a generic expression. Alternate translation: “a contagious disease that affects people’s skin”
