6.43 Non est arbor, etc. Arbor bona vel mala, non natura, quæ a Deo in omnibus bona creata est, sed bona vel mala voluntas. Fructus, opera, quæ nec bona malæ voluntatis possunt esse, nec mala bonæ voluntatis. Neque arbor. Si veram vis habere justitiam et non fictam, quæ verbis ostendis, factis imple, ut sis bona arbor, et bonis fructibus orneris. Quia etsi fingat hypocrita, non est bonus qui facit opera mala, et si reprehendit insontem, non ideo malus est qui facit opera bona. Et nota quod de manifestis hic agitur.

Jesus is twice using a figure of speech that expresses a positive meaning by using a negative word together with a word that is the opposite of the intended meaning. Alternate translation: “For a healthy tree naturally produces good fruit and, on the other hand, an unhealthy tree naturally produces bad fruit”
