OET (OET-LV)And after the public_reading of_the law and of_the prophets, the synagogue_leaders sent_out to them saying:
Men, brothers, if among you_all there_is any message of_exhortation toward the people, be_speaking it.

OET (OET-RV)After the readings from the Law and from the Prophets,[fn] the leaders sent a messenger over to them to ask, “Men, brothers, if you bring any message of encouragement for the congregation, please share it.”

13:15 The Hebrew Scriptures are divided into the Law, the Prophets, and the Writings.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: translate-names

τοῦ νόμου καὶ τῶν προφητῶν

˱of˲_the law (Some words not found in SR-GNT: μετά Δέ τήν ἀνάγνωσιν τοῦ νόμου καί τῶν προφητῶν ἀπέστειλαν οἱ ἀρχισυνάγωγοι πρός αὐτούς λέγοντες Ἄνδρες ἀδελφοί εἰ τὶς ἐστίν ἐν ὑμῖν λόγος παρακλήσεως πρός τόν λαόν λέγετε)

The word Law is the name for one part of the Hebrew Scriptures, and the word Prophets is the name for another part of the Hebrew Scriptures. Even though these are common nouns, Luke is using them to mean specific things. Show this in your translation in the way that is natural in your language.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

ἄνδρες, ἀδελφοί

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: μετά Δέ τήν ἀνάγνωσιν τοῦ νόμου καί τῶν προφητῶν ἀπέστειλαν οἱ ἀρχισυνάγωγοι πρός αὐτούς λέγοντες Ἄνδρες ἀδελφοί εἰ τὶς ἐστίν ἐν ὑμῖν λόγος παρακλήσεως πρός τόν λαόν λέγετε)

This is an idiomatic form of address. Alternate translation: [Our brothers] or [You brothers of ours]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

ἀδελφοί

brothers

The synagogue leaders are using the term brothers to mean people who share the same faith. Alternate translation: [Our fellow believers]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

εἴ τίς ἐστιν ἐν ὑμῖν λόγος παρακλήσεως πρὸς τὸν λαόν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: μετά Δέ τήν ἀνάγνωσιν τοῦ νόμου καί τῶν προφητῶν ἀπέστειλαν οἱ ἀρχισυνάγωγοι πρός αὐτούς λέγοντες Ἄνδρες ἀδελφοί εἰ τὶς ἐστίν ἐν ὑμῖν λόγος παρακλήσεως πρός τόν λαόν λέγετε)

The synagogue leaders are using the term word to mean what Barnabas or Paul would want to say using words. Alternate translation: [if you want to say anything to encourage our people]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / imperative

λέγετε

˓be˒_speaking_‹it›

This is an imperative, but it communicates an invitation rather than a command. Use a form in your language that communicates an invitation. Alternate translation: [we invite you to speak it now]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

13:15 After the usual Scriptures for the day had been read, one from the books of Moses and the other from the prophets (see Luke 4:16-28), the officials of the synagogue invited the visitors to speak any word of encouragement for the people.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.

Acknowledgements: The SR Greek text, lemmas, morphology, and VLT gloss are all thanks to the CNTR.
