OET (OET-LV)And I_fell to the ground, and I_heard of_a_voice saying to_me:
Saulos/(Shāʼūl), Saulos, why are_you_persecuting me?

OET (OET-RV)and I fell to the ground. I heard a voice asking me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / quotesinquotes

φωνῆς λεγούσης μοι, Σαοὺλ, Σαούλ, τί με διώκεις?

˱of˲_/a/_voice saying ˱to˲_me Saul Saul why me ˱you˲_/are/_persecuting

If it would be clearer in your language, you could translate this so that there is not a quotation within a quotation. Alternate translation: “someone addressing me by name and asking me why I was persecuting him”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / synecdoche

φωνῆς λεγούσης μοι

˱of˲_/a/_voice saying ˱to˲_me

Paul is using one part of this speaker, his voice, to represent all of him in the act of speaking. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression from your culture or state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “someone saying to me”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

τί με διώκεις?

why me ˱you˲_/are/_persecuting

The voice is using the question form to rebuke Saul. If you would not use a rhetorical question for this purpose in your language, you could translate its words as a statement or an exclamation and communicate the rebuke in another way. Alternate translation: “you should not be persecuting me!”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

22:1-21 Paul’s premier defense of his life and faith before his own people in Jerusalem illustrates his flexibility as a missionary, just as his speech to the Greek philosophers in Athens had done (17:22-31; see 1 Cor 9:20-23). Paul begins by recognizing his kinship with his people, explaining his Jewish background and training under the noted rabbi Gamaliel the Elder and describing his zealous desire to honor God in everything, which they shared (Acts 22:1-3). Paul then describes his persecution of Christians (22:4-5), the revelation of Jesus to him on the way to Damascus (22:6-10), and his conversion (22:11-16). Paul ends his speech by describing his conversation with the Lord in the Temple. The Lord had predicted the Jews’ rejection of the message and had sent Paul to the Gentiles (22:17-21).
