OET (OET-LV)The_cry_his will_he_hear god if/because it_will_come on/upon/above_him/it distress.

OET (OET-RV)Will God hear their cries
 ⇔ when troubles hit them?

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

הַֽ֭צַעֲקָתוֹ יִשְׁמַ֥ע ׀ אֵ֑ל כִּֽי־תָב֖וֹא עָלָ֣יו צָרָֽה

the,cry,his hear god that/for/because/then/when comes on/upon/above=him/it distress

Job is using the question form for emphasis. If you would not use the question form for that purpose in your language, you could translate this as a statement or as an exclamation. Alternate translation: “God will not hear his cry when trouble comes upon him!”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

הַֽ֭צַעֲקָתוֹ יִשְׁמַ֥ע ׀ אֵ֑ל

the,cry,his hear god

Job is using the term hear in a specific sense to mean “answer.” Alternate translation: “Will God answer his cry for help”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / personification

כִּֽי־תָב֖וֹא עָלָ֣יו צָרָֽה

that/for/because/then/when comes on/upon/above=him/it distress

Job is speaking of trouble as if it were a living thing that could come upon a wicked person (for example, as an animal might pounce on its prey). If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “when he experiences trouble” or “when he gets into trouble”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

27:9-23 Some interpreters see a new speech here and ascribe it to Zophar because otherwise Zophar has no speech in this cycle.
